George-
Nice forum; thanks for the referral! I missed this morning's hunt in the sleet/rain (the boys took 4 mallards, 3 blacks and a Canada... one duck shy of the century mark for the season). Was in the basement grinding out dekes today (got the Dr's "O.K." to put torque on that elbow joint again). Spent the afternoon shaping a mallard and a ringneck. Both have been GAC'd and blacked and are ready for paint.

New to waterfowl hunting in 2012. Rigging a kayak for jump shooting woodies and plan to build a KARA Hummer for some larger areas. Look forward to learning all I can and possibly meeting a few new people.

riggin a kayak for woodie jump shooting.
Kevin,
If you are rigging a kayak for jump shooting the first thing that I did for my kayak was build a gun mount on top front deck to keep the gun from getting dripped on from the paddle and the butt of the gun out of the water in the bottom of the boat. This also keeps the gun at ready when coming around corners. I also keep a smaller paddle (3 foot+-) for work in small creeks or wooded areas and for close quarters dispatch work. When coming around corners in a creek get enough momentum to coast into shooting position and grab your gun and be ready when you are able to see around the corner as if they flush quiclky you need to work quick. On a safety note, get a life vest with a mesh shooting patch on your shooting shoulder. Wear the vest religiously and don't take it off until you drag your kayak out of the water. Good luck and have fun it is one of my favorite ways to hunt.

Thanks for the tips Russell. I have a Hobie Mirage Drive Kayak so it allows hands free propulsion, should be able to keep the weapon at ready. I have a vest I currently use for Kayak fishing that I plan to use for the duckies. As far as a gun mount...still up in the air on that one. My kayak is a sit-on-top so may mount something to the rails. Gonna camo it up and use as a layout in some areas..will post pics when done.

Re: New Members Introduction
Kevin,
Sounds like fun. Just remember that a sit on top is a wet-boat and you sit higher in the water than you do on a sit-inside yak. A little tippier but a self-bailing boat is a plus for any duck hunter. I used mine to layout hunt out of and it was a blast.

Evening guys, real nice site and I am looking forward to purchasing some T shirts and sweatshirts. I just happened to email Dave Clark today - I needed some help re a sneakbox I am refurbishing - and he told me of your site. I recognise alot of the NJ names from another forum. I've been waterfowling for 34+ years and now have a small fleet consisting of a Don Warren box, a JH Perrine box, a Three Oceans marine 2 man scull and a 4 rivers layout. Hunt mostly puddlers and canada. Married with 3 kids and 3 dogs. Look forward to following the site.

New guy here
Hello all,
My name is Neil and i am orginally from Texas but move to Mississippi about 5 years ago. Growing up with 80,000 acres to hunt all of my free time was wrapped up in whitetails. That all changed when I moved to MS and got but by the waterfowl bug. I haven't sat in a deer blind since. The last two years I have been trying my hand at carving decoys and this off season maybe time for a boat build. I hope to learn a lot for you guys and pass it on down to my two sons. Thanks again for this great site.

Re: New Members Introduction
Paul and Neil, welcome to the forum guys! Glad you guys are here.
Neil, nice to have someone from another flyway! Hopefully we can get more diversity here. I love hearing about the waterfowling in other flyways. The Atlantic is not that great.
